What does hypnosis feel like?

You already experience trance many times a day.  (At your initial consultation I will explain how and why.)  It is nothing to worry about.  It feels like dozing in front of the television, on a rainy Sunday afternoon, snug and warm, your mind aware of the noise, but free to drift where it chooses.

What happens in sessions?

In the first session we will look at how the brain works and I will explain how this knowledge, combined with trance, can help you achieve your goals.  We will discuss what you need to do to help the process.   In the following weeks we get to work using a combination of talking therapy and trance, to find, then move you towards your preferred future.

Will you make me do something with which I am not comfortable?

A hypnotherapist can't ever do anything that you don't agree with, despite what stage hypnotists would have you believe.  If you are interested, ask me how stage hypnotists work at our initial consultation.  (We don't use trance at that first session, so you will be quite safe (-:     )

How many sessions will I need?

That is different for everyone, but because we don't have to examine the past we can generally move forward quite quickly.  The more you do your part, the fewer sessions you will need.  As a rough guide, 6-12 sessions are normally enough.  It is your decision about when to stop.  You will know when the time is right.

Hi,  I'm Jen.  A solution focused psychotherapist and clinical hypnotherapist, a college lecturer and old enough to have experienced many of the problems I help my clients overcome.   I now live my life in a solution focused way and as my resilience built as a result of that change, I knew I wouldn't ever need to go there again.  I'd have new challenges (that's life), but I would have the skills to find my solutions.   You will too.

One of the reasons I chose to specialise in this form of therapy is that  we don't need to spend time looking at the past to try and understand how we arrived here.   That means we can often see quicker results than with some other therapies.  We can get straight on with finding your solution and leave the past where it belongs.

We will use solution focused therapy combined with trance and an up to date understanding of neuroscience to uncover why ALL human beings, consciously or unconsciously, sometimes make poor choices (or find themselves unable to make any choice) and how we can, by recognising what we are doing and why, choose differently.  Or how we can finally write over the past to say goodbye to unwanted habits, trauma, anxiety,  and negative patterns of behaviour to focus on finding the solutions for a future you would choose.
